Bitcoin steady near $86,000 as S&P 500, Nasdaq reach new record highs

Bitcoin (BTC) remained stable near $86,000 on Tuesday, mirroring strong upward momentum in US equity markets as major indices set new all-time highs.

S&P 500 and Nasdaq push to historic records

BTC attempted to break through key resistance at $87,000 but continued to face selling pressure around this level, according to order book data. At the same time, US stock markets extended their rally, with the S&P 500 climbing 0.8% to close at 7,835 points as the session began.

The Nasdaq 100 and the broader Nasdaq Composite also achieved new peaks, reaching 31,312 and 27,683 points, respectively. The Kobeissi Letter assessed these gains, noting that since March 30, the S&P 500 had grown by 24%, translating to an increase of $71.3 trillion in market value.

In a fresh analysis, Mosaic Asset Company pointed to a shift in Federal Reserve expectations as a possible driver of higher prices. The firm suggested that a slower pace of interest rate hikes in the fourth quarter of 2026 could provide a solid foundation for an extended rally.

Shifting views around the Fed and a slower pace of rate hikes could become the catalyst for a durable rally, according to Mosaic Asset Company, which also emphasized that market breadth remains weak, with just 25% of stocks trading above their 50-day moving average last week.

Tech companies continued to deliver outsized contributions to the latest surge, although Mosaic highlighted that the breadth of market participation remains at its thinnest level in six months. The last time the market was this oversold occurred in late March, as the S&P 500 briefly approached correction territory. This previous period of oversold conditions sparked a notable reversal, which Mosaic noted could repeat.

Bitcoin faces resistance, correlation with stocks rises

Even as traditional markets powered ahead, BTC remained constrained by heavy ask liquidity stretching from $86,500 up to $87,000, as shown in CoinGlass’s analysis. This ladder of pending sell orders continued to act as a ceiling for near-term price action.

Market data from TradingView indicated that the 21-day simple moving average (SMA) at $83,500 now functions as immediate support for Bitcoin, a level last seen on September 18. Keith Alan, cofounder of crypto analytics firm Material Indicators, noted in his recent X overview that traders are closely observing this technical threshold, as well as the structure around $82,500 support.

Alan drew attention to key price levels: “I’m watching price around $83,555, the structure of any $82,500 support test, and whether buyers can clear the Monthly signal’s $87,375 invalidation threshold.”

Onchain analytics platform CryptoQuant reported a moderate positive correlation between Bitcoin and the S&P 500, with the coefficient reaching 0.51 as of October 2, the highest since early June.

Market monitoring and new trading approaches

As traders monitor critical resistance and support levels, rapidly shifting conditions remain a core feature of crypto markets. A single policy move by the Federal Reserve or the sudden listing of a new altcoin can quickly disrupt price action. In response, investors increasingly seek out privacy-focused tools such as CryptoAppsy to manage everything in one place. These solutions integrate real-time charting, coin-specific news, macroeconomic data, and smart price s, enabling users to streamline their strategies without creating accounts or juggling multiple platforms.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen stated that sustained GDP growth of over 3% would help lower the debt-to-GDP ratio. Market participants believe that with high deficits, economic growth alone cannot fundamentally resolve the issue. To achieve Yellen's goal of reducing the deficit to 3% of GDP, U.S. economic growth would need to reach 4.5%. Furthermore, the decision-making power over fiscal policy lies with Congress, not the Treasury Department.
