This David Schwartz’s Explanation Shows XRP Is Way Better Than Bitcoin

Schwartz Breaks Down the Consensus Advantage

Schwartz described what the Ripple team discovered early on when testing consensus. He said it had several advantages over proof-of-work. The obvious ones he named were financial. Proof-of-work systems require spending millions of dollars to keep the blockchain secure and continuously pull money out of the ecosystem to pay power companies.

But Schwartz pointed to an advantage he called “a little bit less obvious.” In a proof-of-work system, a miner decides what goes into each block. The XRP Ledger removes that single point of control. “Each ledger is determined by a consensus of participants,” Schwartz said. No single party controls what gets recorded.

Fairness as a Foundation

Schwartz connected this directly to features the XRP Ledger supports that Bitcoin cannot. He said it makes possible things like the decentralized exchange and arbitrary assets. He explained that “those things require a system that has inherent fairness, rather than people who get to decide the outcomes.”

The absence of a block producer with unilateral authority is not just a philosophical point. Schwartz presented it as the structural reason XRP can support financial tools that go beyond simple transfers of value.

Schwartz Backs XRP’s Potential

This isn’t the first time Schwartz has made a strong case for XRP’s trajectory. During a public X Space, Schwartz said XRP flipping Bitcoin by market cap is more likely to come from a surge in XRP’s price than the Bitcoin collapse.

Schwartz said it “wouldn’t happen from Bitcoin shrinking” but rather from “XRP growing faster than Bitcoin.” He cited the XRP Ledger’s higher functionality and speed as reasons it could capture more growth in an expanding digital asset market.

The Founding Vision

Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen has also addressed where XRP came from. Larsen previously stated, “In the beginning, we wanted to build a better Bitcoin… and we created XRP.” David Schwartz, Jed McCaleb, and Arthur Britto designed XRP Ledger specifically to address Bitcoin’s speed, cost, and energy limitations.

Schwartz helped build the system. His technical explanation of consensus is based on that experience. He paints the picture of a ledger designed for a financial system that moves faster and costs less.
