According to statistics released by the Brazilian government on Tuesday, the country's oil exports reached a historic peak in September 2024, totaling 11.7 million tonnes. Domestic oil production increased and robust global market demand jointly drove up the export shipping volume for the month. The September export shipment volume has already surpassed the previous monthly record of 11 million tonnes set in March 2023. Compared with the same period last year, oil exports in September rose by 42.2%, and export revenues surged by 77.3%, reaching approximately $6.5 billion. This remarkable export performance was the result of record high Brazilian oil production and rising international market demand. Recent conflicts between the US and Israel and Iran have created pressure on global oil circulation; if shipping through the crucial Strait of Hormuz is disrupted, crude oil prices may soar. Meanwhile, Brazil’s oil production is benefiting from continuous expansion and development of its pre-salt oil fields, particularly the sustained capacity releases from the Buzios and Mero blocks in the Santos Basin, providing a solid supply foundation for export growth.

The Brazilian government released statistical data on Tuesday showing that in September 2024, the country's oil exports reached a record high, totaling 11.7 million tonnes. The increase in domestic oil production capacity combined with strong global market demand jointly drove up the export shipment scale for the month. The export volume in September surpassed the previous monthly record of 11 million tonnes set in March 2023. Compared to the same period last year, oil exports in September increased by 42.2%, with revenue from oil exports rising sharply by 77.3% to approximately $6.5 billion. This exceptional export performance is the result of both record-high oil production in Brazil and increased international market demand. Recent conflicts between the United States and Israel against Iran have already put pressure on global oil flows. The Strait of Hormuz, as a crucial oil shipping channel worldwide, could push up crude prices in the event of a shipping disruption. Meanwhile, Brazil’s oil production is benefitting from the continued development and expansion of pre-salt oilfields, particularly in the Búzios and Mero fields in the Santos Basin, whose increasing capacity provides a solid foundation for export growth.

Bank of America strategists: Bonds become a strong alternative asset to U.S. stocks for the first time in decades

Savita Subramanian, Head of US Equity and Quantitative Strategy at Bank of America, stated that for the first time in decades, bonds have truly become a competitive alternative asset to the stock market. She also warned that investor sentiment is currently high, which means the stock market is more vulnerable to negative surprises and has relatively limited room for further upside surprises. Subramanian noted that the yield on the US 10-year Treasury bond has already surpassed 5%, while Bank of America's own valuation models indicate that the annualized return of the S&P 500 index over the next ten years may not reach this level. She pointed out that US policymakers are working to prevent long-term rates from rising too much. Both the Federal Reserve and the US Treasury Secretary are closely monitoring changes at the long end of the yield curve. Meanwhile, demographic shifts also mean that the ceiling for US interest rates may be lower than in the 1970s and 1980s. In addition, artificial intelligence may bring some deflationary effects in the future, which could ease long-term inflation and interest rate pressures. In this context, Subramanian believes that the environment for bond allocation is becoming more favorable, as it may be difficult for US Treasury yields to consistently rise above 6% to 7%.

European Central Bank Governing Council member Holloenz: Current interest rates retain ample flexibility

European Central Bank Governing Council member Dolenc stated that the ECB’s current monetary policy stance enables policymakers to respond to a variety of potential future shocks. Dolenc said on Wednesday that the current interest rate levels provide sufficient flexibility to deal with changing future circumstances. He added that the ECB’s future policy actions will still depend on inflation expectations and the development of related risks. In a speech in Ljubljana, Dolenc emphasized that geopolitical strategic risks and high energy prices remain significant sources of uncertainty, resulting in persistent inflationary pressures.
