Shiba Inu developer says he is personally funding Shibarium Layer 2 costs

Shiba Inu developer Kaal Dhairya has ended a period of online silence by responding to questions about the ongoing maintenance of Shibarium, the meme coin’s dedicated Layer 2 network built on Ethereum. Dhairya’s statement follows a public inquiry by a community member concerned about the sustainability of such networks after a rival platform announced its closure.

Developer addresses funding concerns

Dhairya, one of Shiba Inu’s main developers, spoke out on X (formerly Twitter) after months without public posts. His comment was triggered when Ed Salomons, a user active in the Ethereum and Layer 2 space, questioned who was covering the costs associated with operating and maintaining Shibarium.

Salomons framed his question in the context of the recent shutdown announcement by Blast, an Ethereum Layer 2 chain, which cited unsustainable operations and a lack of viable revenue as its reason for winding down. In his brief reply, Dhairya wrote, “Yours truly.”

Amid growing speculation about Shibarium’s future costs, Dhairya indicated that he is personally handling the network’s maintenance expenses.

While this response reassured some community members that Shibarium remains supported, Dhairya did not share detailed information about the specific expenses involved, the presence of any additional funding sources, or a clear long-term strategy for network sustainability.

Recent Shibarium technical updates

Shibarium, launched as a Layer 2 solution to improve scalability and reduce transaction fees for Shiba Inu, continues to receive technical upgrades. A recent infrastructure update, attributed to Dhairya, resolved a network reorganization issue. The project team now awaits DRPC’s full transition to Shibarium’s new technical environment.

In late 2025, Shibarium’s old public Remote Procedure Call (RPC) endpoints were decommissioned as part of a migration to a more stable, decentralized, and officially managed RPC infrastructure.

Additionally, last month, community member Mazrael notified Shibarium node operators of a peer rotation process, replacing old node configurations with new Bor static nodes and Heimdall persistent peers. Simultaneously, the RPC listing for Shibarium in the ethereum-lists/chains registry was updated, with new connection instructions provided via Chainlist.

The Shibariumscan blockchain explorer currently shows that reindexing of the chain is ongoing, with 54% of blocks successfully indexed.

Mini dictionary: RPC (Remote Procedure Call) endpoints allow external applications and users to communicate with blockchain networks, enabling services such as decentralized apps, node management, and blockchain explorers to access and transmit data across the chain in real time.

Shibarium remains active despite industry challenges

Unlike Blast, which gave users until October 26 to withdraw assets before shutting down, Shibarium continues to operate, with ongoing technical work aimed at improving reliability and decentralization.

Layer 2 Network Status Main Reason for Update/Closure User Action Deadline
Shibarium Operational Infrastructure updates, active maintenance Ongoing
Blast Shutting down Unsustainable operational costs October 26

Dhairya’s minimal comment about Shibarium’s funding underscores the project’s resilience following concerns stirred by Blast’s wind down while leaving the broader future strategy for long-term network sustainability undisclosed.
