The Fed votes to approve stress test reforms, with Wall Street banks achieving a sweeping victory.
The Federal Reserve on Wednesday voted to approve the final rules for its annual stress tests, marking a major victory for large Wall Street banks.
According to Zhituo Finance APP, the Federal Reserve voted on Wednesday to approve the final annual stress test rules, marking a significant victory for major Wall Street banks. Michelle Bowman, Vice Chair for Supervision at the Federal Reserve, stated: "The stress test is an important component of our regulatory capital framework. The changes today preserve the resilience of the stress test by ensuring it remains transparent, nuanced, and risk-sensitive." The Federal Reserve Board approved these annual stress test reforms with a vote of six in favor and one against. This test was established after the 2008 financial crisis to assess the performance of major Wall Street banks under hypothetical recession scenarios.
The Federal Reserve stated that the two final rules are broadly similar to the proposed 2025 rules, which were welcomed by the banking sector at the time.
The institution is also seeking public comment on a plan to "better reflect differences in banks’ business models regarding how they generate fee income."
