Smart Ring Maker Oura Becomes Latest Company to Delay US IPO

11:11 AM EDT, 09/29/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Smart ring maker Oura delayed its planned initial public offering, joining a growing list of companies that are postponing plans to go public in the US amid market uncertainty. The health intelligence platform attributed the delay to an uncertain IPO market, though it said demand for its share sale was "strong." Oura launched a $2.2 billion IPO last week and expected to price it at $40 to $44 per share. "We aim to deliver an extraordinary IPO for our employees and investors and we have the luxury of choosing our moment," Chief Executive Tom Hale said in a statement on Tuesday. "In the meantime, we will execute against the opportunities ahead." Elevated oil prices amid the Middle East conflict, high bond yields, a seemingly hawkish Federal Reserve and concerns about artificial intelligence safety have soured sentiment on Wall Street. OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman said that an IPO now would be "ill-advised" and that the AI hub's market debut won't happen this year, according to his recent interview with Fortune Magazine. Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei have warned of increasing safety risks associated with AI and urged the industry to advance the technology at a more measured pace. The OpenAI IPO was among this year's much-anticipated mega-cap listings, along with AI chatbot Claude maker Anthropic and Elon Musk-led SpaceX (SPCX). Anthropic confidentially filed for a potential IPO in the US earlier this year, while SpaceX went public in June. Holtec Nuclear recently postponed its planned IPO, citing "unusual confluence of developments that has impaired investor confidence in the market for new public offerings." "The adverse market sentiment has affected the equity markets in general and the nuclear sector in particular in the past two weeks," Holtec said on Sept. 17. CVC Capital Partners-backed Bamboo Insurance Services has also shelved plans to go public, Bloomberg News reported last week. The rapid deployment of AI could pose systemic risks, International Monetary Fund First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz said Monday, calling on regulators and governments to promote strong governance and technical controls.
