⑴ Preliminary estimates indicate that Canada's GDP in August 2026 is expected to grow by 0.2% month-on-month. ⑵ Growth in mining and quarrying as well as retail trade was partially offset by a decline in oil and gas extraction. ⑶ Previously, the data for July showed no change, in line with market expectations, following three consecutive months of growth. ⑷ The goods-producing sector, which accounts for about one-quarter of GDP, was largely flat in July, with increases in construction (1.3%) and utilities (1.7%) offset by declines in manufacturing (-0.9%) and mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (-0.5%). ⑸ Meanwhile, the service-producing sector remained generally flat, with growth in professional, scientific and technical services (0.3%), real estate and rental and leasing (0.2%), and accommodation and food services (0.8%) offset by declines in retail trade (-1%) and wholesale trade (-0.4%).
