CenterPoint Energy Reports Cybersecurity Incident Involving Customer Data

06:05 PM EDT, 09/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- CenterPoint Energy (CNP) said Monday it became aware of an online post by a third party in September claiming to have obtained a data set containing certain customer information. The company said it responded by activating its cybersecurity protocols, launching an investigation with outside cybersecurity experts and taking additional measures to protect its systems. It also reported the matter to law enforcement. CenterPoint said its investigation determined that an unauthorized party had obtained personal information belonging to some customers through an external-facing system. The company is still assessing the scope of the information and customers affected. The company said it does not expect the incident to have a material impact on its financial condition or results of operations. Electric and gas services have not been affected and remain operational.
