09:19 AM EDT, 09/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Canada's manufacturing sales fell 0.4% on the month to CA$78.7 billion in July, ending a five-month run of gains, Statistics Canada said Monday. Sales fell across eight of 21 subsectors, led by chemicals down 6.6% monthly and food products down 1.4%, while oil and coal products rose 1.9%, Statistics Canada wrote in a statement. July's drop in manufacturing sales was more than the 0.2% drop expected in a Bloomberg survey. Despite the monthly decline, total sales were still 10.9% higher year over year, added StatsCan. Inventories rose 0.3% monthly to a record CA$127.5 billion, continuing their upward trend since January, the agency said. Unfilled orders also hit a record CA$134.6 billion, rising 1.9% for a sixth consecutive month, driven by fabricated metal products, up 4.6%, machinery up 3.0% and aerospace products and parts, up 0.7%.
