08:37 AM EDT, 09/14/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman said the company's highly anticipated initial public offering will not take place in 2026 due to ongoing concerns around safety and control in the artificial intelligence sector, Fortune reported Monday, citing an interview with Altman. Altman told Fortune that going public this year would be "ill-advised" given the current safety issues surrounding AI. He said OpenAI has more work to do on safety and alignment and does not feel pressure to proceed with an IPO. OpenAI confidentially filed for a potential IPO in June, but the company has not set a public target date for the offering, the report said.
