The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) released data from the New York Mercantile Exchange (COMEX) showing that, during the week ending September 8, speculative traders reduced their net long positions in gold by 1,263 contracts, bringing the current net long position to 139,548 contracts. Generally, changes in speculators' net long positions are an important indicator of short-term market sentiment. The slight decline in net long positions this week also reflects an increase in disagreements among market participants regarding gold's short-term trend.
