04:42 AM EDT, 09/11/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft (MSFT)-backed OpenAI is expanding access to its AI tools for federal, state, local and tribal governments through a new multi-year agreement with the US General Services Administration, the company said Thursday. Under the deal, eligible government organizations will receive free ChatGPT licenses and 50% off usage costs under the 27-month agreement, which runs from Oct. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2028. OpenAI will offer verified government entities 50% off Daybreak Blue with training and support, while cyber defenders can request Daybreak Red at standard pricing for advanced security research and red teaming, it added. OpenAI also said the agreement includes onboarding, usage estimates, spend controls, FinOps guidance, webinars and an expanded Government Academy to support adoption.
